Tottenham Midfield Ratings

Tottenham really dominated the match from the midfield, particularly in the second half after the introduction of Pierre Højbjerg. Getting good minutes from Erik Lamela, Sissoko, and Winks game Højbjerg a half off and Ndombele an hour off. With Liverpool at the weekend, it was good to get a run out from some other player.

Moussa Sissoko – 6.5

Moussa Sissoko started as one of the two holding midfielders – as we had projected – and then ended the game as the right back for Japhet Tanganga as Pierre Højbjerg came into the middle. Sissoko was okay on the day, unlucky on a deflected shot that went off the crossbar and should have had an assist but Son shot over from close range. Outside of those few moments Sissoko put a shift in, but lacked the quality Spurs needed to get over the hump.

Harry Winks – 8

Harry Winks was excellent on the evening for Tottenham. With 84 touches no player one either side had more possession in the match than did Winks. More importantly than getting on the ball was what Winks did once he got the ball, which was often to go forward and attack. From the first touch he took, where he spun and dribbled 20 yards into the attacking half, to his wonderfully placed left-footed curler for the game winner, Winks was on. An excellent outing from Winks showing he very much has a part to play in this side.

Erik Lamela – 7

For his first major minutes in quite some time Erik Lamela did okay. But, if one looks at what could have been during the match, we really wanted more. Lamela did a solid job in the middle of the park making himself available and looking to progress the ball. He had a few magnificent touches that probably should have led to more. Lamela take four shots and had three on target, but none really bothered Allsop. A start in the return process.
