Tottenham Offensive Ratings

Tottenham Hotspur went with the attacking three we had projected with Lucas Moura and Gareth Bale flanking Carlos Vinicius. While Bale was able to get his name on the scoresheet, neither Moura nor Vinicius made the kind of impact Mourinho was looking for and were replaced down the stretch. Tottenham created a lot of chances, but failed to capitalize most of the evening.

Gareth Bale – 7.5

Gareth Bale’s match was probably a microcosm of his season. There were times where you were about to just jump out of your seat and scream with excitement. There were also times where you just likely wanted to jump out of your seat and scream. The good news is that Bale is finding himself in the right positions, the bad news is that he is still failing to capitalize at the rate Spurs need him too. The Welshman did flash a bit of burst and looked the most comfortable he has all season with the ball, which is a big plus. If Spurs can get 30 good minutes a night from Bale to finish teams off, that would be near perfect.

Carlos Vinicius – 6.5

Carlos Vinicius did some things very right for Tottenham on the evening. During the first half, particularly before the goal, Vinicius often looked like the coach in a traininig session where everyone tried to play the ball into Carlos and he would play it back out to someone else. This led to some early opportunities for Tottenham, but Spurs failed to take advantage. Caught offside a couple times, Vinicius needs to be a bit more aggressive and assertive in the box. While the layoffs and passes are nice, he is being paid to shoot and score.

Lucas Moura -7.5

Lucas Moura had an okay evening from the perspective that he was often in good positions and making some things happen with the ball. Moura was ultra aggressive with the dribble and looked to attack early and often. At times a bit wasteful with the ball, needs to slow down just a tad and make better decisions in the final third. Did produce the shot/pass that led to Bale’s touch and Spurs opener just before the half, which was critical.
