Son Heung-min helps restore smiles to the Tottenham faithful
After midweek heartache in the Champions League, a Son Heung-min brace helped put a smile back on the faces of the Tottenham faithful.
It was only last Wednesday, after an unduly harsh exit from the Champions League, when Son’s post-match interview yanked mercilessly at the heart strings of Spurs supporters. Yesterday an elated Son offered solace to wounded Tottenham fans as they jumped to third in the table, such is the capricious nature of the game .
The virtues of Son
Son may emanate virtues such as good will and humility but the Korean also boasts an abundance of resilience and grit. In the summer of 2016 Son was visibly distraught after South Korea fell agonizingly short at the Rio Olympics; ultimately missing out on a medal and exemption to Korea’s mandatory military service.

But Son did not brood over the disappointment and started the Premier League season in spectacular fashion, scooping September’s Player of the Month award. Yesterday Sonny showcased similar fortitude, brushing aside Wednesday’s woes to put in a typically industrious and clinical performance.
Recognition
The Korean’s average heat map must look something similar to a bowl of noodles, and his arduous work was highlighted this week by Peter Crouch in his Daily Mail column, which hailed Son as ‘part of a new breed of footballers who are changing expectations.’
Crouch went on to write:
"“Football has altered dramatically due to the relentless workrate of men such as Firmino and Son Heung-min of Tottenham, who is one of the top players in the League. He would improve any of the best teams… [He] is so underrated. He shouldn’t be because he’s every bit as important to Tottenham as Harry Kane and Christian Eriksen.”"
Son has arguably been Spurs most dependable performer this campaign and has already netted 18 times.
The Korean has seven goals in his last four games and his value to the side is recognized by the fans who yesterday serenaded their number 7 after he sealed the victory… much to his delight!
