Another win for Tottenham sees Mauricio Pochettino praising his side for the performance that they displayed at Vicarage Road on their way to a comfortable 4-1 rout.

Wins are generally seen as a good team performance. Picking out certain instances where Tottenham could have improved is well, picky. It’s nitpicking.

This is why Mauricio Pochettino tends to always talk about his team’s performance in a positive light. He will discuss something that wasn’t good, of course, but if his side wins the match then all that matters is securing another three points.

Although repetitive, it’s good to see the Argentine manager always have his players’ back through the bad times and praise them when they perform well.

With Watford being Spurs’ first opponent to begin the new year, all it took was 20 minutes, encompassing the middle of the first half and the early portion of the second half, to effectively run away as the winner.

Tottenham had already jumped out to a 4-0 lead a minute after the second half began, completely bossing the game against an outmatched Watford team dealing with injuries and suspensions.

Harry Kane (27′ and 33′) and Dele Alli’s brace (41′ and 46′) was more than enough to see out the Hornets at Vicarage Road, giving Spurs their fourth straight win in as many matches.

A consolation goal in stoppage time was the only blemish as Tottenham were unable to pick up a clean sheet. But other than that, a win is what mattered in the end.

More from Match Reports

“I am very pleased with the performance and the effort of the team,” Mauricio Pochettino told Spurs’ official website.

“I think it was fantastic at a very difficult place, to play in the way we played was very good and it was one of the best performances so far.”

“The first half was fantastic, 3-0, and with the way that the team played, it’s something to be very proud of.”

“It’s that opportunity when you see that the players are enjoying playing football on the pitch and I think the performance was fantastic, not only with the attacking players but the whole team.”

The players certainly are enjoying themselves as they have recorded back-to-back 4-1 wins in their past two games. While the opponents might have been lackluster )for lack of a better word), Tottenham have gone about their business and put away teams they should beat.

To further discuss his players’ performances, Pochettino talked about Kane and Alli’s brace as well as Kieran Trippier and Kevin Wimmer’s contributions after getting the start with both Kyle Walker and Jan Vertonghen suspended, respectively.

“I think all did well. I am happy when our main striker scores because that is a good signal for us. [The finishes] were not easy but for that [reason], they are great players.” Mauricio Pochettino explained.

“With their evolution and how they are showing their quality is something to be very proud of and feel good about.”

He continued, by talking about Trippier and Wimmer’s performances: “They were fantastic, both showed great quality.”

“It’s always difficult to play when you don’t play normally but I am very pleased and I congratulate them. It was a fantastic effort to make us better, more competitive and that is fantastic news for the team.”
