Incredible comeback for Tottenham U21s in North London derby
By Tom Vinall
Early on Saturday afternoon, Tottenham U21s were in action in the Premier League 2, as they traveled to Arsenal in a North London derby.
For the big game, Wayne Burnett went with a line up of; Aaron Maguire, Max Robson, Alfie Dorrington, Maeson King; Leo Black, Callum Olusesi, Rio Kyerematen, Tyrese Hall; Damola Ajayi, Jaden Williams, Yusuf Akhamrich. Alfie Dorrington had been named on the bench for the trip to Ferencvaros on Thursday.
It was the nightmare start for Spurs. who conceded two goals in the first 36 minutes of the game, and went into the half time break 2-0 down to their hosts.
However, whatever Burnett said at half time clearly worked. Just six minutes after the break, Spurs were level - first after a goal from Hall, and then an equaliser from Robson. Just after the hour mark, and Olusesi had scored to give Burnett's side the lead for the first time in the game.
After 82 minutes, Williams had doubled Spurs' lead, and then deep, deep into stoppage time, after a number of changes had been made by both teams, substitute Maxwell McKnight made it 5-2 to inflict further humilation and pain on Arsenal.
What makes this result even more remarkable is that Spurs were on a four game losing streak in the Premier League 2, having not won since the opening game against Chelsea, a match up long enough ago that George Abbott and Josh Keeley featured in it. Of course, losing players to loans does contribute to loss of form.
Despite the win, due to the aforementioned form, Spurs U21s are still 21st out of 26 teams in the league, with six points and a minus four goal difference from their six games so far. Still, if a battering of your arch rivals can't give you the lift needed to turn your fortunes around - then it is hard to know what exactly will.
