According to Jay Harris, Tottenham Hotspur's correspondent for The Athletic, Spurs captain Heung Min-Son was not involved in training on Wednesday morning, one day before the game against AZ Alkmaar in the Europa League.
It remains to be seen whether or not he has picked up an injury, or perhaps if Spurs are just managing his workload, having only played once since the injury he picked up in the win over Qarabag on matchday one of the Europa League.
In an ideal world, Ange would not have played Son tomorrow night anyway. Whilst AZ are a better, more competitive side than Qarabag, it was playing in the Europa League that caused him to miss three weeks of action in the first place. At his age, and with his mileage in his legs, two games a week is not optimal.
Mikey Moore impressed during the win over Ferencvaros last time out in Europe, and this would have been a great opportunity to have given him a start in a more natural position off the left hand side.
If Ange was planning on not involving Son tomorrow, or at least not starting him, then a day off training feels like a pretty normal thing to do. He wasn't able to play 90 minutes vs West Ham on his return, and making sure his hamstring is 100% sealed is the right thing to do.
Let's all seriously hope it is just that, and that Ange simply didn't have any plans to involve him tomorrow night. If it is worse than that, it could be seriously costly for Spurs in the Premier League. You cannot help but feel that the 2-0 lead at Brighton could have been 4-0, had the captain been playing that day, and it is crucial that he does not miss any more league games.
Djed Spence is also missing from training, though he is not in the Europa League squad in any case. That said, once again, albeit on a lesser scale than Son, hopefully it is nothing more than that and he can be at Ange's disposal for the games immediately after.
Some better news is that Wilson Odobert was taking part in full training. You would imagine the game tomorrow night will come a bit too soon for the golden boy listed winger, but the game against Galatasaray in a couple of weeks could be his opportunity when it comes to the Europa League.
