Is the new Tottenham stadium opening at exactly the right time?

Tottenham Hotspur’s new stadium may be about to open at exactly the point in the season they need it too.

Things have gone from bad to worse for Tottenham Hotspur so far this season and yet they have admirably been resolute about it.  Mauricio Pochettino and his team have dealt with more than their fare share of injuries as well as the unbelievable hindrance of playing the majority of their matches essentially as away games in Wembley Stadium while never knowing when their stadium will open and a board and chairman that are entirely principally set against the idea of paying them equal salaries to their contemporaries at other clubs or investing in additional talent to add to the squad.

To say that it’s been hard would be an understatement and all the while Spurs have still managed to play an admirable level of football and find themselves in third in the Premier League and also magically somehow not out of the title race. They’re only two points out of second and five out of first at the moment.  They’ve won just as many games, 19, as the two giants ahead of them but lost more matches (something that hints at the level of exhaustion in the squad) and are in the knock out round of the Champions League.

Now without any players added in January when they likely should have been and an aggressive chairman would have done anything at all to add to the quality of the team Tottenham are going to have to find another way to improve.  So much should not be asked of them yet again but it is unfortunately being done regardless.

Tottenham will have to make all their changes on a mental level and that’s exactly the sort of thing that a new stadium could provide an uplift towards.  Imagine an important Champions League match or a decisive end of the season title effecting match and running out for one of 10 more matches in a brand new home? The thrill would be like nothing any of the players had ever felt before.  They’ll be reinvigorated and energetic beyond belief.  It’s exactly what they need at this point.

The new stadium can reinvigorate the team and the fanbase where the chairman and board have chosen not to in what has been a heartbreaking and difficult season.
