Earlier this week, Hotspur HQ revealed that Tottenham would lock horns with Arsenal, in the hopes of beating their North London rivals to the signing of Alexander Isak. The Newcastle striker seemed destined to take the next step in his career as he has surpassed the threshold needed to be a Newcastle striker this season. Is still the case, though?

Well, further news has since developed, with the player himself revealing where he stands amid the transfer speculation. According to inews, Alexander Isak is happy with where he's at, at least for the time being. In his own words, the Swedish striker said:
“Yeah, of course I want to be [with Newcastle] in the future. I came here for the project, I absolutely love playing here, I really feel at home. I want to finish this season in a good way for me and the team. I love playing here.”
The project which Isak is referring to has taken a significant blip this season and Newcastle are a fraction of the forcer they were last season. For factors out of his own control, Newcastle United have plummeted and failed to build on the momentum they set by qualifying for the Champions League last season.
Currently, the Magpies sit eighth in the Premier League table, 13 points behind Spurs and 24 points behind Arsenal. Therefore, for Isak to show this much commitment to Newcastle United when they seem to be on a downward trajectory is a testament to his loyalty.

Of course, in football, nothing is ever set-in-stone. Where agents are involved, there are some offers and propositions which simply cannot be turned down. Tottenham are certainly a wealthy club and they hope that qualifying for Europe next season with give them more pulling power, hence why they are linked to players as big as Alexander Isak.
Should a big contract offer be tabled for Alexander Isak, then he and his agent could still be persuaded, regardless of his PR-fuelled speech committing himself to Newcastle United. Where the club is involved, a big transfer fee could certainly sway them as according to Football Insider, the Magpies are forced into selling some key players this summer.
