As per Fabrizio Romano and many others, Tanguy Ndombele’s Tottenham Hotspur contract is on the verge of being terminated.

The French midfielder joined Spurs on a six-year contract from Ligue 1 club Lyon in the summer of 2019, for a reported fee of £55 million. (Transfermarkt)

But it appears that a six-year contract has been terminated one year early after an incredibly anti-climatic stint in North London.

There is absolutely no doubt that Ndombele has the ability to do so, but it is clear that he doesn’t have the commitment necessary to make it to the top level.

Ndombele consistently showed to be overweight and lazy during his time at Spurs, leaving him to be frequently benched by every manager he played for.

He did show glimpses of the player Spurs thought they were getting, his assist immediately after coming on in Spurs’ 2-0 win over Manchester City in February of 2020 showed what type of player he could be.

Tanguy Ndombele’s Tottenham nightmare about to end

Ndombele had spells during the lockdown season in 20/21 under Jose Mourinho, but overall these performances or moments were few and far between, and the majority of his time was very underwhelming.

He has now had three unfruitful loans: back at Lyon, at Napoli, and most alarmingly at Galatasaray. He did pick up a Serie A winners medal during his year at Napoli at least.

A good way to sum up Ndombele’s downfall since moving to Spurs is, per Wikipedia, Ndombele accrued 7 caps for the France national team aged just 22 in 2018 — he didn’t make a single appearance for Les Blues after making the switch to Spurs.

Factoring in the price tag and the hype around his move to N17, Ndombele may well just be the biggest transfer disappointment in Spurs’ history
