Spurs loan watch: Delight for young Tottenham duo
By Tom Vinall
On Saturday afternoon, Luka Vuskovic, Alfie Devine, and their KVC Westerlo traveled to Standard Liege in the Belgian Pro League, as they looked for their first win in six outings.
For the second game in a row, both players were named in the starting XI. Timmy Simons again went with a 3412 setup but with tweaks in a role for both players. Instead of playing on the right of the back three, Vuskovic played as the middle centre-back. Last week, Devine played as the number ten behind the two strikers, whilst for this game - he played deeper, as one of the two number eights.
It only took Westerlo six minutes to take the lead, thanks to a goal from Matija Frigan. They kept that lead until the 63rd minute, where Andi Zeqiri equalised from the spot to make it 1-1.

However, it only took one minute for Westerlo to regain their lead, with Frigan scoring his second of the game. Vuskovic showed a superb carry through the thirds, before having the composure to pick out Frigan, who cut inside and drilled home a low left-footed strike. Vuskovic's ball-carrying has been noted during his time in Belgium, and it was apparent again for the goal here.
From then on, Westerlo were able to see the game out, and indeed get their first win in six attempts. Vuskovic recorded; seven clearances, three interceptions, 2/3 ground duels won, one foul drawn, and 1/1 dribble attempts during the game. Devine completed 3/4 long balls and made three interceptions, one tackle, and one clearance in a battling display. The midfielder picked up a booking in added time for dissent, as he completed his second 90 minutes in two starts.
The win puts Westerlo up to fourth in the Belgian Pro League, above the likes of Anderlecht and Royal Antwerp - who they played last week. Next up is a home game against Beerschot on Friday night, 19:45, as their final game before the October international break.
