A recent signing from Burnley, Wilson Odobert, was in action for France U21s against Slovenia in a qualifier for the U21 European Championships that take place in Slovakia in June 2025.

Odobert was left on the bench by new manager Gerald Baticle, who took over after Thierry Henry resigned in the aftermath of the Olympics campaign. He was introduced in the second half, however, replacing Dilane Bakawa with around 20 minutes to go of the game, with fans saying he immediately looked bright and tried to make things happen.

It was a frustrating result for France, who drew the game 1-1 after a second-half goal from Desire Doue cancelled out a first-half opener from Tio Cipot. This result puts France three points behind Slovenia in qualifying for the European Championships, although Les Blues do have a game in hand and a superior goal difference to their counterparts.

Spoils shared for Wilson Odobert and France U21 side

Next up for Odobert and his young counterparts is another home game, this time at the hands of Bosnia & Herzegovina on Tuesday. Their visitors have only picked up three points from their six qualifying games so far, losing five of them, so this is a huge opportunity for France. They can go above second place Austria, as this is their game on hand, whilst putting pressure on Slovenia who will only play once in the international break, whilst France play twice.

In fact, France's final game of qualifying will be a home game against Austria, which could end up being a winner-take-all game to secure qualification for the aforementioned European Championships.

Kick-off for the game against Bosnia & Herzegovina is 17:30 BST and 12:30 ET. Hopefully, Odobert can receive a start, as he did at the club level against Everton and Newcastle United, though he faces some fierce competition to do so.
