Today, the 13th of September, marks seven years since Tottenham Hotspur beat Borussia Dortmund 3-1 at Wembley on matchday one of the 2017/18 Champions League season - the club's first European game at Wembley - let's take a look back at how it all played out.

Then manager Mauricio Pochettino went with a lineup of; Hugo Lloris, Serge Aurier, Toby Alderweireld, Davinson Sanchez, Jan Vertonghen, Ben Davies; Eric Dier, Moussa Dembele; Christian Eriksen, Heung-Min Son; Harry Kane. Moussa Sissoko replaced Son after 83 minutes, and Fernando Llorente replaced Kane a few minutes later. Four central defenders in the starting lineup, five if you wish to include Davies - yet Spurs were still able to score three goals and play some fantastic football.

It only took four minutes for Son to score with a left-footed strike from a tight angle following a quick Spurs break, and Wembley was rocking. However, just seven minutes later, Andriy Yarmolenko scored for the visitors with a lovely curling effort from 20 yards out, and it was suddenly 1-1.

Seven years since famous win against Borussia Dortmund

There would quickly be another change on the scoreline, however - as Kane would shrug off numerous challenges in a solo run, before firing a left-footed finish into Roman Burki's near post and into the back of the Dortmund net. Spurs took that 2-1 lead into halftime, with their only shots of the half being the two goals.

In the second half, Spurs would kill Dortmund in transition, having 11 shots to their visitors five despite having only 35% of the ball. Son fired just over five minutes into the half, having been well-found by Kane. Shortly after, Dortmund had the ball in the net, only to see the linesman have his flag up. Replays show it was definitely onside, and would have stood in the VAR era. Ah well.

After an hour, Spurs would have their two-goal lead, as Kane fired a left-footed shot across goal and into the far bottom corner to make it 3-1, having been fed by Eriksen. The striker had also assisted Son for his goal, in an absolute all-round masterclass. All four goals in this game were left footed goals, in a bit of a random quirk.
