AC Milan’s pursuit of Tottenham Hotspur defender Emerson Royal seems to be progressing smoothly, with reports from Italy indicating that the Serie A giants are prepared to meet Spurs' valuation for the versatile player.

Emerson Royal, who played various roles across the defense for Ange Postecoglou last season, appears to be on his way out of Tottenham. The Athletic reports that Postecoglou believes Royal is not well-suited to the system he wants to implement at Spurs, prompting the decision to offload the full-back.

AC Milan has been leading the race to sign Royal this summer, engaging in discussions with both Spurs and the player’s representatives for an extended period, according to Gianluca Di Marzio. Recent claims from Gazzetta dello Sport suggest that Tottenham has reduced their asking price to approximately €20m, or around £17.5m.

The latest update from Gazzetta (h/t Football Italia), indicates that the final fee for Royal is expected to be in the range of €18m-€20m, a sum that AC Milan is willing to pay. It is believed that Milan will meet Tottenham’s demands as they seek to bolster their defense, with Royal identified as a top target this summer.

The negotiations, which have spanned several weeks, have seen the price for Royal decrease to an amount Milan can afford. However, this has not been without compromise from Milan, as they are now set to pay around €2m above their initial budget for the player.

Reports also suggest that Emerson Royal will be the first signing for incoming Milan manager Paulo Fonseca. This move signifies Milan's commitment to strengthening their squad ahead of the new season.

In my opinion, the agreed price is fair for a player who can perform well in multiple positions and who still has a substantial contract left at Spurs. Royal’s versatility and experience make him a valuable addition to any squad, and his move to Milan could be beneficial for both clubs.
