Tottenham are keeping a close eye on the progress of their highly-rated young defender Luka Vuskovic, who is currently impressing on loan at Belgian club Westerlo.
The 17-year-old Croatian centre-back is set to officially join Spurs in 2025, following a £12 million deal that was sealed last September.
Vuskovic has been catching the attention of many with his standout performances in Belgium, showcasing his potential as a future key player for Tottenham.
In just 11 appearances in the Belgian Pro League, he’s already scored four goals and provided one assist, remarkable numbers for a centre-back. His versatility, both defensively and offensively, has only increased the excitement surrounding his arrival in North London.
Tottenham insider John Wenham recently spoke about Vuskovic’s development and offered insights into the club’s plans for the youngster.
Insider reveals Tottenham's stance on loanee Luka Vuskovic's future
According to Wenham, Spurs will carefully assess the Croatian during pre-season next year before making any decisions regarding his immediate future. There’s a possibility that Vuskovic could either be integrated into the first team or sent out on another loan to continue his development.
A key factor influencing Tottenham’s decision will be the club's qualification for European competition next season. Wenham suggested that if Spurs qualify for the Europa League, Vuskovic may be given the opportunity to gain valuable first-team experience in that tournament.
On the other hand, if the club secures a Champions League spot, they might choose to send him out on another loan to ensure he gets regular playing time at a competitive level.
Speaking to Tottenham News, Wenham said, “They’ll definitely take a look at him during pre-season before making a decision. If we’re in the Europa League, Spurs could keep him and let him develop in that competition. But if we qualify for the Champions League, there’s a chance they’ll send him out on loan again.”
For now, Tottenham will be closely monitoring Vuskovic’s progress, with his pre-season performance next year likely to play a big role in shaping his immediate future at the club.
