While it’s not a here we go, Fabrizio Romano tweeted an update regarding the Micky van de Ven to Tottenham situation, saying the clubs are closing in on a deal.

It’s been almost a week since we last heard an update, the idle time made even more agonizing thanks to the Mirror, who last week said the deal was as good as done.

The airwaves went silent for the better part of six days. While Romano’s tweet isn’t groundbreaking or earth-shattering news, it feels different. Maybe that’s due to the cold sweats I’ve developed while waiting for a something, anything.

At least his update feels like movement. It is also specific, saying the clubs enjoyed positive talks on Monday. By my calculation, that’s today.

And when Romano says the clubs are close to reaching an agreement, they are actually close to getting it across the finish line.

Personal terms have been agreed for what seems like an eternity.

Last week, the Mirror reported that Tottenham is set to pay about £25 million for the Dutch 22-year-old. Let’s see if the publication is at least correct in that assertion.

The last time I wrote a van de Ven update, I asked readers to grab a soothing cup of tea and wait for confirmation.

Hopefully, they didn’t take it literally. Because if they did, English Breakfast tea is by now seeping from every pore.

This news is far more promising. When Romano publishes a tweet saying the clubs are “close,” usually a tweet, saying here we go soon! is pretty close behind.

Let’s hope that’s the case, as Tottenham takes off for their pre-season Australia tour on Friday. And wouldn’t it be brilliant to have van de Ven on board that flight to Perth. Tottenham knows the importance of ensuring he is onboard that jet.

If the signing is confirmed late this week, van de Ven can use his breakneck pace to catch the plane on the tarmac before liftoff.
