Tottenham making solid progress with Wolves over Adama Traore
By Gary Pearson
Fabio Paratici is making solid progress with Wolves, as Tottenham Hotspur ramps up its pursuit of Adama Traore.
The likelihood of this potential move happening is increasing by the day. Spurs were interested in Traore even before Antonio Conte landed in north London. Nuno Espirito Santo sang Traore’s praises and Paratici is onboard with both Santo and Conte’s evaluation of the powerful Spaniard.
Traore, however, divides opinion amongst Tottenham supporters. The naysayers are fearful of Traore’s final product, believing he would only exacerbate the longstanding issues at the club. Emerson Royal also struggles to deliver accurate crosses, and Traore is seen by throngs of supporters as another player with this unfixable deficiency.
Those on the yes side of the debate believe signing Traore is worth the incumbent risk. Whichever side of the fence you sit, various reputable sources suggest this deal is going to happen, possibly as early as Monday.
While Tottenham haven’t yet made an official bid, Paratici is in conversation with Wolves about what it will take to secure Traore’s services. It looks like Wolves will agree to sell Traore for about £22 million. There is talk of Matthew Doherty being offered in a swap deal, which would see the Irishman return to Wolves after18 unremarkable months in the capital.
Doherty’s stock on the open market has plummeted since Tottenham bought him for £16 million in 2020. Even if Wolves can be convinced to accept Doherty as part of a swap deal, it’s unlikely Spurs will garner more than £7 million for the 29-year-old.
That would leave Spurs with between £15 and £20 million left to pay for the attacking midfielder who Conte will invariably adapt as a right wingback.
Stay tuned as this story develops, but don’t be surprised to see Traore in Tottenham colours as early as Monday. Midweek seems slightly more probable, though.
