Will Tottenham add another winger

Much like the questions around the creativity issues with Tottenham in the center of the midfield, whether or not Tottenham really needs another winger remains to be seen. If Kane stays healthy the Spurs have an all-world wide-man in Heung-Min Son who can play on either side. However, after Son, the issue for Tottenham is one of consistency.

WIth Steven Bergwijn and Lucas Moura, both can excite the eyes, get hearts pumping and pull people out of their seats with quick footwork and driving runs. However, when push comes to shove things often end in disappointment in the final third.

Moura struggles with his final ball – although we know on-tune he can score almost at will – and Bergwijn has had difficulty hitting the target. If both players could start playing up to their full potential and talent, suddenly Tottenham has three very good wingers who can all play on the left or the right and have the pace and power to cause defenses problems.

As fans, we know that Lucas and Bergwijn have rarely both been on and behind them, Tottenham has Bryan and Ryan Sessegnon on the left, along with Jack Clarke on the right. None of the three played a role for Spurs last season and of the three only Bryan looks like he is likely to impact this season. The jury is still out on Sessegnon and Clarke but the reality is neither is ready to be counted on to be week-in and week-out starters should a couple of injuries occur.

Tottenham is just an injury away from trouble

We need to remember an injury to either Kane or Son – let alone both – means going deeper into the depth on the wing. As we think about that it makes the Adama Traore pursuit seem all the more important, although, like Bergwijn and Lucas, Traore is consistently inconsistent.

Maybe with all these positions, the Spurs get some luck and everyone stays healthy and plays their part to perfection. Bryan and Lo Celso add the necessary creativity, while Lucas and Bergwijn hit their strikes. More likely, however, someone goes down and Tottenham must add a striker, a winger, or creative player in January.
