Tottenham do not have all their eggs in one basket

As Paratici began working the phones and taking the reigns for Tottenham, reports were coming out about his negotiating style. According to Alasdair Gold and Football.london Paratici is a famed workaholic and is known to “often negotiate deals for up to 10 players at a time” simply to fill only a single position in his squad.

This is a major change from two perspectives. First, would be the numerous options available if plan A does not come to fruition, and second, is the fact we have not heard anything about 10 players connected with the club.

Whereas in the past – and the present with Romero – Tottenham negotiations occurred publicly, where are the other players in these numerous negotiations? We have gotten two multiple daily updates from people like Romano on the Romero transfer but we do not hear much else on these other 10 deals.

Paratici has a plan B for Tottenham

All this leads one to believe Tottenham is prepared to walk away from the Romero deal and not lose sleep over it because there is another player in the works, much more subtly and quietly. For all we know, Paratici has been negotiating for Gleison Bremer from Torino for the last week as well and will land the Brazilan as plan B for £15 million.

At that price, Spurs would still have cash for Takehiro Tomiyasu as well. Both defenders could be signed and the team could still have funds for half the payment on Dusan Vlahovic for the same £50 million Atalanta want for Romero. We need to remember that the Spurs need help in several places, not just defense.

The one thing we can be certain of is that while the purse strings may still be held like years past, the search for the players is different now. Paratici is on the job and if Romero never comes – although I hope he does – feel certain there is a plan B better than signing Chris Smalling from Roma.
