Tottenham today are living their nightmare, as it’s been confirmed that Son Heung-Min will most likely miss the rest of the season after suffering a fractured arm against Aston Villa.

Just as you thought things were improving in north London, the side is struck down by the most unfortunate, catastrophic of injuries. Son, in Harry Kane’s absence, is Tottenham’s most valuable player, their main scoring threat and heartbeat of the team.

His two goals, the 50th and 51st of his Premier League campaign, salvaged a win for Spurs at Villa Park. Son was playing with a fractured arm for a large portion of that match, making his performance all the more remarkable.

This is what Jose Mourinho had to say in a piece by the Guardian a few hours ago:

"“We are going to miss him. The club wrote a nice statement. If I was the one to write the statement I would write different. We miss him. The situation couldn’t be worse. That is obvious. There is nothing we can do.“We are going to play with the players we have available. I was worried about not having attacking options on the bench – now I don’t have attacking options on the pitch.”"

With news of Son’s injury, the focus and pressure mounts on Dele Alli, Steven Bergwijn and Lucas Moura to step up and provide the goals. A similar case of horrible luck struck down Spurs last year at this time, with Harry Kane going down with a long-term injury against Manchester City.

However, Spurs at least had one of their two talisman in the lineup for the run in. This season they’ll have to cope without both of their top scorers for the most important phase, including pivotal knockout round Champions League matches and a fifth round FA Cup encounter with Norwich.

Next. An unheralded hero from Spurs win over Aston Villa. dark

You have to be an eternal optimist to remain positive after the earth-shattering news that is shaking the very foundation of Tottenham’s world today.
