Twitter Tuesday: Is Gareth Bale really coming back to Tottenham?
By Gary Pearson
Spanish football media outlet Don Balon confirmed that Gareth Bale has reached an agreement to, after a five-year absence, return to Tottenham.
Is Gareth Bale really coming home?
It’s hard to believe the Don Balon report that Gareth Bale will be wearing Lilywhite next season. Tottenham HQ has devoted significant column inches to the unlikely, but possible, scenario becoming reality.
His swollen weekly wages are the biggest impediment to making this deal happen. But if Daniel Levy wants to shrink the disparity between his club and the two Manchester sides, Bale is precisely the type of world beater Tottenham need on their payroll.
Yes, he has a sordid injury history. But if the Welshman can stay off of the treatment table, he would instantly improve Spurs’ chances of winning a trophy. He’s a match winner, a superstar and a proven champion. And although he’s enjoyed some fun in the sun for five years, Bale’s heart still pumps for Tottenham.
Christian Eriksen isn’t merely a one-way player
If you were under the impression Christian Eriksen only contributes going forward, you’d be mistaken. Sure, his dazzling skill on the ball is the reason the Dane’s market valuation currently sits at over £100 million, but let’s not take anything away from his defensive commitment.
The stat doesn’t show how many of Eriksen’s 88 attempted tackles were successful, but that deviates from the point. This particular stat is evidence of Eriksen’s desire to help out defensively, a somewhat rare trait for a playmaker of his ability.

Toby Alderweireld could be Juventus-bound
Juventus, if Mehdi Benatia leaves for pastures anew, is keen on procuring Toby Alderweireld. Odds of the Belgian remaining at Tottenham have diminished with every passing week. Player and club ceased talks about two months ago, as Alderweireld is desirous of a salary too rich for Daniel Levy’s blood. It’s a crying shame things have deteriorated to this irreconcilable level, as Alderweireld is a centre back unlike any other, and will be sorely missed.
