Tottenham’s 10 best matches of 2016/17

Tottenham 2 – 1 Manchester United
In truth, United’s visit to White Hart Lane wasn’t about the football. Jose Mourinho had both eyes on the Europa League final in two weeks’ time and — perhaps rightly — felt that that was his best chance at qualifying for the Champions League.
As such, the United team that faced off against Tottenham for the last-ever match at White Hart Lane was neither as strong or as motivated as it could be.
That didn’t make things easy for Tottenham, even after Wanyama opened the scoring in the 6th minute. But given their run of form and clear motivation to earn one final win, the result was all but assured.
The eventual 2-1 result was notable for another reason as well. It solidified Tottenham’s unbeaten status at home and, indeed, was their 14th consecutive win at the ground.
Spurs had made the Lane into a fortress for its final season, a fitting tribute for a ground that had been their home for nearly 108 years.
