Here’s the latest Tottenham Hotspur Links.

Today the Mirror had 10 talking points from this past weekend and number five was that Tottenham have other goalscorers besides Harry Kane. At first glance, looking on from the outside, it wouldn’t seem possible as they have just one out-and-out striker, but it’s true. There are six other goalscorers aside from Kane who have contributed at least three-plus goals this season.

And finally, Thierry Henry says that there is a four-team race for the Premier League title. And as much as he doesn’t like to admit it, Tottenham are very much in the hunt. Even with five points separating Spurs from first placed Leicester City, Spurs are capable of closing the gap with their current form. To the links below.

Last season, Tottenham had only three legitimate goalscorers: Harry Kane, Nacer Chadli and Christian Eriksen. And while all three players scored double digit goals in all competitions the main contributor was obviously Kane with 31 goals.

This time around, Harry Kane still leads the team in goals and it looks as if Tottenham are still reliant on their star striker who has scored 16 goals in 31 appearances this season in all competitions. But the fact of the matter is that Spurs have other goalscorers besides Kane. Currently there are four other players who have tallied five or more goals in all competitions this term.

Tottenham’s other goalscorers:

  • Érik Lamela – 8 goals in 26 appearances
  • Dele Alli 6 goals in 30 appearances
  • Christian Eriksen 6 goals in 27 appearances
  • Son Heung-min – 5 goals in 22 appearances

So as we can see, Tottenham are capable of winning games without Harry Kane needing to score. It would be better if he did though, but it’s not necessary. Mind you, this doesn’t even include two other offensive players in Mousa Dembélé (three goals in 30 appearances) and Nacer Chadli (three goals in 20 appearances).

Altogether, that’s six other goalscorers on the team besides Kane who have combined for a total of 35 goals. It’s a balanced attack if anything, and points to a squad who are capable of picking up the slack when need be. With six players scoring at least three-plus goals.

Harry Kane may have 16 goals this term but with Dele Alli, Nacer Chadli and Son Heung-min all finding the back of the net this past week, perhaps January moves are less likely to happen now after these latest contributions.

Following Chelsea’s 1-0 win over Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium, this leaves Leicester City three points atop of the league table with Manchester City sitting in second place ahead of Arsenal based on goal difference. As for Tottenham? They’re now just two points adrift of the Gunners and Man City.

“Now, Tottenham, coming from nowhere, are two points behind Arsenal and nobody has been talking so much about them winning the title. Now, they are well in it. It’s a four-team race for the title,” Thierry Henry told Super Sunday.

“They are in it. They are two points away from Man City and Arsenal with [a] +22 goal difference. Arsenal have to go to the Lane. I never thought I would have said it, but they are in it.”

The top four are all viable candidates to walk away with the Premier League title at the end of the season. But for each team aside from Tottenham they have obstacles in their way.

For Leicester, both Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez have scored plenty of goals this season but they’re starting to cool down individually when it comes to scoring. That obviously hasn’t stopped Leicester from winning games still. But the fact that the Foxes have been more reliant on their deadly duo is more of a concern than Spurs relying on Kane.

Arsenal have had injuries keeping them from advancing further ahead of the table. And now that they’re in the thick of a title hunt with three other contenders, any more injuries would derail their hopes of catching up to Leicester City. There’s also the little fact that some games they lost, should have been wins instead.

And lastly, Manchester City have also scored plenty of goals and are dominant at home, but appear to lose that edge when they’re on the road. There have been some losses that are a bit baffling considering the amount of money that has been poured into the squad this past summer. If the Citizens were more consistent on the road, they would be the odds on favorites to win the title straight up.

Whatever happens in a month or two month’s time will be unpredictable but one thing is for certain, Tottenham appear to be peaking at the right time. They have players returning from injury, Hugo Lloris is still on the top of his game and Spurs are getting solid contribution from other goalscorers to ease the burden on Harry Kane. Not to mention having the best defense in the Premier League.
