Look who’s back, at the same stadium even, Villa Park. Did the end result change? Nope. Still a win by Tottenham. But the score sure did and it was worse than two years ago on December 26, 2010.

In the 2010 edition of Boxing Day, Aston Villa lost 2-1 to a 10-man Tottenham team. This year, you would be surprised to know that it was still a game of 22 players, 11 on each side. Aston Villa was just that bad.

The previous week, Villa had gotten humiliated and destroyed by Chelsea 8-0 at Stamford Bridge. So hopefully a home game would help them succeed this time. And for the first 45 minutes, Aston Villa succeeded in keeping Spurs at bay. But once the second half got underway, from the 57th minute until the 84th minute — 27 minutes — nearly half-an-hour and the Villains conceded four goals.

A second-half hat-trick by Gareth Bale put Villa out of their misery for the second consecutive league game. And quite possibly, Villa’s two worst defeats in a row which saw them give up a combined 12 goals.
