The proposal has not gone down well at all

According to a report, the Premier League are set to introduce the following; Half-time interview with player or coach, interviews for players who are subbed off, and dressing room broadcasts.

Furthermore, it is added that clubs have to choose one of the three options, every week. The report points out that an assistant manager can be the one who takes the half time interview, so we might not see Spurs manager Ange Postecoglu giving brutal assessments.

It is safe to say that the idea has gone down just about as well as you’d expect – terribly.

There is absolutely nobody who asked for this. When has anyone watched a Premier League game and thought “You know what this is missing? An interview for a player who has just been subbed off.”

They tested it out during the game between AFC Bournemouth and Southampton a couple of weeks ago, where they briefly interviewed Bournemouth player Marcus Tavernier after he had been replaced. That did not go down very well and gave an idea on how fans feel about it.

It just feels so very Americanised. Part of what makes sports great is their traditional culture that is unique to them. What is the obsession with trying out ideas from American sports. Do they think Americans want to introduce ideas from English sports? Definitely not.

The dressing room broadcast feels like a very private thing that should not be shared to the public. It’s hard to imagine many, if any, Premier League clubs that will go with that option, leaving them to choose between half time interview with player/coach, or interview with player that has been subbed off.

Upon reflection, the interview with a player that has just been taken off probably feels the least terrible, even though it still is poor. When you’ve just played 45 minutes of football, you want to get back in the dressing room, not give your thoughts on the half. That’s what a pundits job is for, not a footballer or coach. Crazy.

Let’s hope that by any chance, this does not come to fruition.
