One word which is taking the football world by storm is "Barclaysmen". The term is used to reminisce on the cult heroes of the Barclays era of the Premier League. Of which, Tottenham had their fair few.

Most notably, in the 00s, Tottenham were not at the standard they are expected to meet today. However, this is what made them special. They were never expected to achieve much and they weren't in the traditional big four, but their resilience required the emergent big six.

Tottenham have always played an attractive brand of football but as the fanbase is getting older (sorry to remind you), the Barclaysmen trend has been a perfect time to recollect memories of the best era of football.

So, who is the most iconic Tottenham Barclaysman of all-time?

1. Dimitar Berbatov

The long-sleeves, the gloves, the hairband and the screamers. Everything about Dimitar Berbatov screams prime Barclays.

Oftentimes, Berbatov is not remembered among the all-time Premier League greats. But he was certainly underrated and he did more than a job at White Hart Lane.

Playing for Tottenham between the years 2008-2012, Berbatov netted 48 times in 108 Premier League games. Oh, sorry, I should say BARCLAYS Premier League games.

2. Benoit Assou Ekotto

Speaking of that very niche pool of players who wore gloves and scored screamers, let me remind you of Benoit Assou Ekotto.

The Cameroon international played as a full-back for Tottenham but he spent a lot of time loitering in the final third. That's taken for granted these days but in Assou Ekotto's era, this was appreciated.

Perhaps his most memorable moment in a Tottenham shirt came against Liverpool. Assou Ekotto allowed Tom Huddlestone (another Barclays baller, by the way) to take a free kick but he hit the wall, then the ball fell back to Assou Ekotto who pelted a screamer into the Liverpool net.

3. Emmanuel Adebayor

The streets will never forget Emmanuel Adebayor. It's fair to say that he was a journeyman but forgetting Arsenal to join Tottenham is bound to win him brownie points from Tottenham fans.

Emmanuel Adebayor scored some absolute rifles. When he was in the mood to score goals, you could tell, because the ball would risk breaking the back of the net.

Playing for Real Madrid in your career has to count for something. But, even that loan spell at the Bernabeu doesn't compare to Adebayor causing mayhem in the prime Barclays era of the Premier League.
