Tottenham player deletes social media after North London Derby loss
By Kian Long
It's fair to say that the start to this season has not been kind to Tottenham Hotspur. If anything could rekindle the love for the club, it would have been beating their arch rivals Arsenal at home.
However, Tottenham failed to do so. While the game was end-to-end, Tottenham could not finish their chances. Now, the mood is dejected, not just for Tottenham fans but the players too.
One area of the game which is often overlooked is the impact which losing, particularly in games like this, has on the players. At the end of the day, players are human beings too and they love the game more than anyone.
So, it's no surprise to see a Tottenham player has deleted social media.
Tottenham player deletes social media after North London Derby loss
As noted by Tottenham fans on Reddit, Brennan Johnson recently deleted his Instagram account. Of course, the exact timing of the account deletion is only known by the player but it is no coincidence that it occured after the North London Derby.
Fans can be passionate. In some ways, this makes the game great. However, in moments like this, it makes the game abysmal. No human being should ever be driven to deleting their online presence, likely through fear of fan perception and, let's face it, treatment.
It would be completely unfair to tarnish every fan with the same brush. However, reading between the lines, it is easy to guess that the treatment of Brennan Johnson after the North London was getting too much for him.
It is no secret that players sometimes have teams of professionals who manage their social media. However, this is not always the case. So, fans must be hesitant and think twice before they hurl abuse at players.
Besides, Brennan Johnson was by no means the worst player on the pitch. Players have off-days, it just so happens that every Tottenham player had an off-day in one of the most important fixtures of the season.
In order to progress, Tottenham must be unified. Johnson is a young player with the future ahead of him. If he has every reason to neglect the badge, then fans who hurl abuse at players should not be surprised when he eventually does neglect the badge.
Instead, fans of every club should get behind their players. Particularly those with a bright future ahead of them. Only then will players have every reason to fight for the badge, not neglect it.
