Tottenham Hotspur are clearly building something for the future. Currently, they have the fifth most expensive 18-year-old in the world.

Tottenham have always prided themselves on their ability to build for the future. In the past, they have been home to some of the best young players in the world. The likes of Harry Kane, Ledley King and David Beckham all came through the academy, after all.

In the modern era, it is a little different. Tottenham still have a great academy which mustn't be overlooked, but they are also afforded the luxury of signing young players from other clubs.

In the recent summer transfer window, Tottenham signed one of the best young midfielders in the world. In fact, his value has only increased.

According to Transfermarkt, Archie Gray is the fifth most expensive 18-year-old player in the world. His new market value since joining Tottenham is believed to be €25m (£20.8m).

It must be stated that Tottenham did invest heavily into Archie Gray. In the summer, they paid over his believed market value in a deal worth around €41.25m (£34.4m).

However, this could soon prove to be Tottenham's smartest business. After all, he is tipped for great things and Tottenham fans have only seen great things from Gray.

At this early stage of his career, Gray's market value has never decreased or even plateaued. If anything, he has the potential to see his market value only increase exponentially.

The fact that Transfermarkt sees Archie Gray as the fifth most valuable 18-year-old in the world is a great sign for Tottenham. It goes without saying, but Ange Postecoglou has a star on his hands here.

In his first season at Tottenham, Archie Gray has made five appearances across all competitions. He has made his full debut in the Europa League and the EFL Cup, now he just awaits his first Premier League start.
