The PFA awards always rustle a few feathers. Such is the nature of the sport, fans can become quite heated if they feel like a player they've watched blossom throughout the previous season isn't recognised for their efforts. This is especially the case for Tottenham who showed plenty of progress across the board, yet didn't steal the eyes of many.
Still, there are certain Tottenham players who stood out above the rest of the pack, with fans certainly thinking they deserve the right to be recognised. While every club will encourage the pursuit of team honours, there is no denying that individual honours can also help a team to prosper, since it grants their players with the confidence to achieve more.
Former Tottenham player wins the PFA Young Player of the Year award
As announced by PFA last night, the former Tottenham player Grace Clinton won the PFA Young Player of the Year award. Clinton was handed the award last night, as voted for by players.
Her terrific work with Tottenham Hotspur on loan was recognised, as ageing at 22 years old she showed plenty of maturity on the pitch, leaving Tottenham fans emotional that she left.
Clinton is a bright midfielder, who loves to carry the ball forward with purpose and drive. She is able to take other players on, as she always fancies herself to bring the ball into more promising positions.
This level of confidence on the ball is not unheard of for young players, but what sets Clinton apart from the rest is that she isn't afraid to swallow her pride and offload the ball when there are better options.
Without a doubt, Clinton deserved to win the young player of the year award. She is setting herself up for an incredible future and hopefully, she will look back at her time spent developing in North London as a key catalyst for her future success. After all, she is already a capped lioness for the England national team under Sarina Wiegman.
Clinton will now return to Manchester United for the upcoming Women's Super League season. The first matchweek is set to kick off towards the end of September, with Tottenham hoping to beat Clinton's parent club Man United in the standings. Last season, Tottenham were only four points shy of Man United.
