Thomas Tuchel has been announced as the new England manager. Tottenham fans will certainly like his comments from eight years ago.

Tottenham Hotspur have a great history with the England national team. Particularly under Gareth Southgate, the Three Lions regularly featured Tottenham players such as Eric Dier, Harry Kane and Dele Alli.

However, in the past few years, there has been a severe lack of Tottenham players in the England national team. This isn't helped by them leaving Tottenham, but it also isn't helped by England's selection changes.

However, if a previous comment by new boss Thomas Tuchel is anything to go by, then Tottenham fans might get used to seeing their favourite players involved in the England squads from now on.

New England boss Thomas Tuchel admitted to being a Tottenham fan

As pointed out by TBR Football, Thomas Tuchel once admitted to being a fan of Tottenham Hotspur as a child. He admitted to playing in the garden with his friends, as Tottenham.

In his own words, Thomas Tuchel told the media: “As a little kid in my garden when I played I was always a team from the Bundesliga, of course, but there was one game when I played with my friends when I was Tottenham Hotspur."

Thomas Tuchel claimed that his reason for choosing Tottenham Hotspur was due to him loving the name as a child. We can only hope he wasn't disappointed when his research went beyond the name.

For England, they have been seeking a replacement to Gareth Southgate for a long time. It remains to be seen if Thomas Tuchel matches his legacy, but there is certainly plenty of excitement about a new avenue.

It might sound bizarre to re-read Thomas Tuchel's comments in hindsight. Of course, he ultimately joined Chelsea as their manager and even was involved in a touchline spat while facing Tottenham.

However, even Tottenham fans can admit that the spat was largely fuelled by Antonio Conte, who was rather heated to face his old club Chelsea.

Anyway, Tottenham fans will hope that Thomas Tuchel remains a fan of Tottenham, even despite the touchline drama. After all, they have one player in particular who could benefit from an England managerial switch.

James Maddison was consistently omitted from the England squad in Gareth Southgate's final stages. So, he is definitely deserving of an England call-up. Tottenham fans can only hope the 2023 signing is considered by Thomas Tuchel when he takes charge.
