Rodrigo Bentancur was an integral part of Tottenham’s squad under Antonio Conte, acting as the focal point for transition play. He was always a reliable player when it came to retaining possession as well.

The Uruguayan’s injury in February has seen him miss 28 games for Spurs across all competitions. His return to action last Friday therefore came as a huge win for supporters and the player alike.

It’s great to see Lolo running with the squad, especially under the management of Ange Postecoglou who has helped Spurs become the only remaining unbeaten team in the league.

The midfielder’s recovery process, however, was extraordinary and would surely be the explanation for any quick return to form.

In a recent video released by the club, Rodrigo spoke about what the training regimen looked like:

“We’ve trained a lot to be able to get back in the shape I was before… as a minimum, I’d train 10-11 times a week.

So, in the last three months, I’ve done about 120 sessions.”

The recovery from such an injury is never easy on a player, but Bentancur seemed to take the process in stride. Additionally, he had a lot of support to get him through it:

“My family were there since minute one. Then, all the rest of the family in Uruguay who supported from the beginning as soon as they found out about my injury.”

Outside of this, it’s been clear that everyone at the club and around the Spurs community have been hoping for a speedy recovery.

The timing of his full return is yet unclear, nevertheless it’s a positive sign to see him getting first-team minutes.

The clash against Chelsea this Monday will likely prove a tough fixture. Tottenham will be looking to remain top of the table, especially with Arsenal’s drop in points after their loss to Newcastle this weekend. Potentially, Bentancur could come on late to make the difference.
