Tottenham’s Japhet Tanganga set to join Augsburg on loan

According to Fabrizio Romano, Tottenham’s Japhet Tanganga is set to join Bundesliga side Augsburg on loan for the season.
There will also be an option-to-buy clause in the deal, so Japhet might not return to Tottenham depending on how his loan spell in the Bundesliga goes.
Jose Mourinho provided the 24-year-old with his senior Premier League debut against Liverpool in January 2020. He had only played one previous match, a Carabao Cup contest that ended in defeat to Colchester.
Tanganga’s debut was special. He showcased his tenacity, aggression, speed, and guile, holding his own for large portion’s of his debut.
And he was only 20 at the time.
In truth, Tanganga never reached the potential he showed in that contest.
His time in the first team was all too fleeting. He struggled to consistently impact first-team proceedings, making 50 appearances in all competitions (27 in the Premier League) since the 2019-20 campaign.
He enjoyed his most consistent run under Mourinho’s tenure.
While a sound out-and-out defender, Tanganga lacks the quality required in possession. He has fallen way down the pecking order at Tottenham and needs a move to revitalize his sputtering career.
Spurs supporters should wish Japhet all the best and hope he reaches his full potential in the Bundesliga. Maybe he can return to Spurs’ first team, but he has a long way to go before that possibility becomes a reality.
