Mickey Moore puts pen to paper on new Tottenham deal

Mickey Moore, whose deal with Tottenham was agreed over a week ago, put pen to paper today, sealing the deal on a contract that runs through 2026. 

The highly regarded 15-year-old was wanted by some of Europe’s best clubs, but decided to stay at Tottenham after Daniel Levy pulled out all the stops to ensure he would remain a Tottenham Hotspur player.

What Levy said or did is anyone’s guess, but it probably boiled down to an assured developmental program, which would have most likely provided the youngster with a clear path to first-team opportunities at the senior level.

With Ange Postecoglou at the helm, those assurances would have been much easier to make.

The new Tottenham manager prioritizes academy development, believing strongly youth players deserve every opportunity to make a significant impact at the senior level.

The same cannot be said for Antonio Conte, whose philosophy is built around having elite talent at each position. Jose Mourinho is similar to Conte on that front, but at least the Portuguese manager gave Japhet Tanganga his senior debut.

Then again, Mourinho didn’t have much of a choice due to a litany of injuries to senior players.

For Moore, like any youngster of such an impressionable age, a lot has to happen before he infiltrates the senior team.

Regardless of what happens in the future, keeping Moore is being dubbed as a coup for Tottenham.

Moore was part of trophy-winning teams at Under-17 and Under-18 levels last season while featuring for the Under-19s in the UEFA Youth League.

He made 10 Under-18 Premier League appearances in 2022-23, scoring three times and assisting four.
