Ange Postecoglou has become the frontrunner to take over as Tottenham coach, to the frustration of many Spurs supporters.

The 57-year-old has a CV that might underwhelm the most optimistic of Tottenham supporters.

His current job at Celtic is by far his most prestigious over a two-decade career. From various Australian club roles to several years in charge of the Australian international side, Postecoglou arrived at Celtic lacking European managerial experience.

And most Celtic fans weren’t impressed with his arrival.

Two years on, Postecoglou has made a name for himself in Glasgow, where he’s adored by the green and white side of the city and despised by the blue.

The Greek-born gaffer speaks from the heart and has motivated his team and fans, spurring Celtic to eminent heights, including two league titles in as many seasons. He knows how to get the most out of each player, evinced by the team’s inspired on-field performances.

Ange is also switched on tactically.

Forward-thinking, he ensures his team’s attack with flair. He views football as a team game that isn’t reliant on star players, understanding acutely that every player must pull their weight for a club to progress.

Yet it’s still challenging not to feel somewhat underwhelmed, even concerned, about the prospect of his appointment.

Postecoglou palpably lacks experience at an elite level. While impressive, his two seasons in Scotland aren’t enough to convince supporters that he’s the man for what promises to be an epic challenge in north London.

There’s far more chance his appointment will go disastrously wrong, but I’d happily be proven wrong.

His ideas and tactics were implemented swiftly at Celtic, helping them to league and cup titles.

Although his main competition and fierce rivals, Rangers, has been in a transitional state since Steven Gerrard left for Aston Villa in 2021, the same time Postecoglou joined Celtic.

Postecoglou capitalized on Rangers’ shortcomings, executing a tactical approach that’s helped overcome their fierce rivals.

But is battling Rangers in an inferior Scottish league enough of a test to take the helm of a Spurs side in desperate need of expertise and experience?

A manager of Ange’s status might be more pleasant for Levy, as he’d be less likely to kick up much of a fuss once in charge. And that’s a ominous thought.

All we, as a fanbase, can do is hold our breath and pray we’re not in for a Nuno 2.0 situation.
