2. Pochettino’s passion for Tottenham

No candidate can ever compare to the passion Pochettino has for Tottenham. Most gaffers take the Spurs’ job preoccupied with the prospect of receiving an outlandishly large severance package once they’re inevitably shown the pink slip.

The same is not true for Pochettino, who showed how much the club means to him after the miracle in Amsterdam. That outpouring of emotion alone should be enough for every Spurs supporter to be on board with his rehiring.

The 51-year-old is a long-term investment, not merely a flash-in-the-pan manager like Conte or Mourinho. His love of the club will make winning a trophy a more natural process, which could expedite achieving the elusive goal.

Different from other clubs, winning a trophy at Tottenham is a burdensome, agonizing process that cannot be achieved by hiring a manager who always wins but rarely spends more than two years at a club, leaving prematurely after spearheading dissent.

The two managers who always win failed to do so at Tottenham and predictably departed after their dictatorial styles ran their course.

Pochettino flew home from his holiday in Asia after the axe had dropped on Conte. I’m not saying that Pochettino flew home solely due to Spurs’ breaking news. But he certainly cares enough about Tottenham to make that theory feasible.

He’s a Lilywhite through and through. And when you care about something enough, winning comes naturally as a byproduct.
