Projecting the Tottenham Midfield

If makes changes anywhere in the team, it would be in the midfield. This is not because anyone has played particularly poorly or particularly well off the bench; rather, it is the deepest part of the team and an area where we should expect some rotation, which will start Saturday but grow over the coming weeks.

Left-wing-back – Ryan Sessegnon

Of course, I saw Ivan Perisic play on Sunday, and so did Conte. However, does anyone think Ryan Sessegnon would have had the same impact off the bench that Perisic did? The reality is Perisic will be managed throughout the season to get the best from the Croatian when the team needs it most. Saturday against Wolves is not yet that time, and Ryan Sessegnon gets another chance. Sess has popped up in good positions in consecutive games and needs the confidence from another good performance.

Central-midfield – Pierre Hojbjerg

Depending on your perspective, you may have thought the Danish midfielder played well or poorly against Chelsea. In reality, Pierre Hojbjerg was his normal steady self. His passing was fantastic, and although he did not have as many forward balls as we may like when he does play them, they are dangerous. His goal was excellent and shows his growing belief in himself. If one of Rodrigo Bentancur or Hojbjerg is going to sit from the start for this one, it will not be the Dane.

Central-midfield – Yves Bissouma

Neither Hojbjerg nor Bentancur has played poorly over the season’s first two weeks. However, Wolves are a team where Yves Bissouma makes sense. Wolverhampton will not sit back in a shell even on the road, but Bissouma will help keep the game in front of the defense and protect a back-three that is likely down a starter. With only 15 minutes through two games, it just feels like time for Bissouma to get a little run-out.

Right-wing-back – Emerson Royal

The Brazilian defender had a quiet game from an attacking perspective against Chelsea. Although Royal got some crosses off, they were not the quality he or the forward were looking for in terms of service. Royal was strong defensively until be replaced late by Lucas Moura, who could get a spot start if Conte was to attack more.
