After a largely successful loan spell at Villareal in the second half of 2021/22, Lo Celso looked set to make the switch permanently.

Unfortunately, fast forward a month, with now little interest seeming to be held for the Argentine from any club.

By missing out on Christian Eriksen, Tottenham does have a somewhat creative midfielder-shaped void in the squad, and although we’ve not seen it so far in his time at N17, this could feasibly be filled by Lo Celso.

The midfielder performed excellently in the Champions League with Villareal and is often a standout player for his national team. So, there is no logical reason why he couldn’t replicate this in the Premier League.

That being said, Conte has made a clear statement in leaving in London, and Villareal is still reportedly interested in acquiring his signature, so don’t be surprised if Lo Celso is indeed a makeweight amidst this summer’s business.
