Tottenham Hotspur announces pre-season squad for South Korean tour
By Aaron Coe
This summer, Tottenham has worked to strengthen their midfield and attack, with new options available in both groups.
Spurs central midfielders for the South Korea tour
The central midfield is the one place we know there will be competition within Tottenham. With only two spots available in Conte’s traditional set-up but six lads fighting for time, this should be an area of strength for Spurs.
Yves Bissouma headlines the group as the new signing from Brighton will likely make his pre-season debut. Additionally, Spurs fans will get their first authentic look at Pape Matar Sarr, who was signed last summer but stayed on loan in France.
Joining the two newcomers are four returning players looking to win playing time. Pierre Hojbjerg and Rodrigo Bentancur are the two incumbent starters, although anything can happen among the group. Oliver Skipp and Harvey White represent the youth movement still afoot at N17, with Skipp looking to reclaim his starting role and White just wanting a role in the squad.
The three people we will not see on the trip in the midfield are Harry Winks, Tanguy Ndombele, and Giovani Lo Celso, who were left at Hotspur Way to train, along with Reguilon.
Tottenham attackers for Asia tour
We expect Spurs to continue to play with three attacking players across the front line, mixing and matching among six or as many as seven players on this trip.
We know the front three of Harry Kane, Heung-min Son, and Dejan Kulusevski are the first choice and are obviously on the trip. However, all three men also played a lot for their respective countries this past summer so they will feature but likely not for that long.
Unlike, Lenglet, Richarlison was able to get everything done and is on the plane, which means fans will get their first glimpse of the new signing on tour. Additionally, Lucas Moura and Troy Parrott are joining in. We should expect Moura and Parrott to get good minutes during the games.
Again the wildcard in the front three is Gil, who is more naturally an attacker, but we will have to see how Conte deploys the Spaniard.
Unfortunately, for academy attackers, Dane Scarlett and Alfie Devine, their extended summers winning the U19 EUROs left them out of the trip. However, with two more pre-season games following the tour of Korea, we should expect to see Scarlett and Devine with the senior squad sometime this summer.
