Other centre-backs in the mix for Tottenham

At least six other centre-backs have been linked with Tottenham already this summer, although some can play on the left or central. Whether these players would be depth for Dier, Davies, or both would be something only the future would tell us.

Gleison Bremer – Torino

Early in the transfer window, it seemed like Bremer would be the apparent alternative to Bastoni if things could not work out with the Italian. Bremer is a Brazilian back who has been playing mainly on the left side for Tonio, although he is naturally right-footed. Bremer is a defence-first kind of recruit who is renowned for marking the best forwards in Serie A out of the game. He did not see as much of the ball at his feet as some of the other players linked, but he is solid in possession.

Milan Skriniar – Inter Milian

Skriniar is another hold-over transfer target from prior regimes at N17. One of the significant differences is that Skriniar has played for Conte; Conte would likely have to be 100% sold on Skriniar to bring him to Lonon. Although older among the group of linked players at 27, Skriniar could walk in and be productive from day one and provide at least 4-5 strong seasons. Like Brener, Skriniar is right-footed but can play on the left.

Marc Guehi – Crystal Palace

English, 21, and with an entire season in the Premier League under his belt, Marc Guehi is an interesting name that has been linked in the last few days with Spurs. Guehi is likely someone Conte knows, having come to the Chelsea academy as a teenager when Conte was still the coach of the Blues. An excellent short to medium-range passer and good but not great at all aspects of defending, Guehi could be molded into something special.

Besides those defenders, Spurs have also been connected to Lisandro Martinez of Ajax, Roger Ibanez of Roma, and Kalidou Koulibaly of Napoli.

Maybe the most exciting part to all of this is that the player Paratici and Tottenham ultimately sign may not even be among this group. After losing out on Luis Diaz, it is likely the player Conte and Paratici most desire is being well guarded, and, in the meantime, several options are being lined up so the club will be ready when the time comes.

While Spurs may not have signed anyone for a few days now, we should not fret as there is ample evidence that Paratici is hard at work to land the players Tottenham needs.
