Midfielders
Ryan Sessegnon (LWB) – With Sergio Reguilon out, Ryan Sessegnon was back in the line-up against Liverpool, and the young flanker produced a big moment. Sessegnon made a big run to provide an option for Kane and then did the unselfish and intelligent thing, squaring the ball to Son for the tap-in. Sessegnon is always strong defensively, but Spurs will need more going forward.
Pierre Hojbjerg (CM) – It was a game of almost moments for Pierre Hojbjerg against Liverpool. The midfielder put in his typical defensive shift, protecting the backline. Hojbjerg also came close to handing Spurs the game with a couple of nice plays in that attacking half. The Dane had a superb cross, which required a terrific defensive play from Jordan Henderson to stop Kane from scoring. Then Hojbjerg hit the outside of the post from 25 yards. Spurs could use those moments on Thursday.
Rodrigo Bentancur (CM) – Very much a bellwether for this current Spurs side; how goes Rodrigo Bentancur seems to be how goes Tottenham. Bentancur struggled early against Liverpool but steadily grew into the game and helped hold down the middle. Spurs need his forward passing and composure on the ball, which has not always been apparent the last month.
Emerson Royal (RWB) – Playing perhaps his best game in several months, Emerson Royal looked terrific against Liverpool. Royal did his job defensively and looked comfortable on the ball. Royal hitting some cross-field passes and serving up a couple of decent crosses is a big positive for the team moving forward.
