Projected Tottenham starting midfield

There is a change in the midfield but likely not the change everyone may have been hoping to get. Instead of hearing Skipp would be back for the stretch run, news broke the young midfielder was done for the year, and now Reguilon is out too. That leaves Conte with few choices as he tries to maintain his tactics.

Left wing-back – Ryan Sessegnon

There have been times this season that Ryan Sessegnon has played well at left wing-back. Sessegnon has continued to struggle to stay healthy again this season but again has an opportunity to make a mark and try and earn his place in the team and lockdown the left wing-back position with Reguilon out.

Central midfield – Pierre Hojberg

This week, there were some reports that Tottenham may sell Pierre Hojbjerg this summer. While Dane is not a perfect match to Conte’s system, he does bring a lot to the table and always competes. Spurs need more in the middle of the park and Hojbjerg to provide it.

Central midfield – Rodrigo Bentancur

Like the rest of the team, the last two matches have not been the best for Rodrigo Bentancur. The field general during Spurs winning streak, Bentancur, has been a step off the pace the last two weeks, leaving Hojbjerg with more to do and contributing to Spurs’ weak displays. Hopefully, whatever has ailed Bentancur is behind him, as there is no depth in the midfield with Skipp out.

Right wing-back – Emerson Royal

Seemingly starting by default like the rest of the four players in the middle of Tottenham’s formation, Emerson Royal is back at right wing-back. Royal, maybe more than any Spurs player, could use a breakout performance. A match where Royal put three or four nice balls into the box to get an assist or two would do both he and the team wonders. One wonders if he can do it.
