Tottenham Midfield Ratings

Spurs were not outstanding in the midfield but did enough to control the tempo and keep Brighton from making too many opportunities to attack the Tottenham defence.

Matt Doherty – 6

It was a quiet evening for Matt Doherty on the right. After just missing out on a Hojbjerg cross early, Doherty did not get forward much as Spurs did most of their work on the counter. Just a step off the pace all day and leaving the door open for Emerson Royal, who replaced Doherty with 20 minutes to play.

Rodrigo Bentancur – 7.5

After not having a great game in the loss to Manchester United, Rodrigo Bentancur came back with a strong effort against Brighton. Bentancur was aggressive defensively, making timely tackles all over the pitch. Rodrigo dribbled out of their half and played an excellent through-ball to Kane for Spurs’ second goal. An excellent showing overall from Bentancur.

Pierre Hojbjerg – 6.5

It was not an excellent match from Pierre Hojbjerg, but the Danish midfielder did what he did and provided defense cover. Maybe fortunate to not be flagged for a double handball protecting his face off a corner, Hojbjerg had a vital tackle of Neal Maupay in the box late in the match, avoiding the foul and ending the danger. He recycled possession well and kept Spurs pushing late.

Sergio Reguilon– 6.5

Outside of Kane’s first-half opportunity, no player for Tottenham probably missed a better chance than Sergio Reguilon. Played forward by a superb ball from Kane, Reguilon was in on Sanchez but shot directly at the keeper from a tight angle. The Spaniard probably should have cut it back to an open Son, one of several questionable decisions made in the box. He had a late chance saved by Sanchez.
