2. Matt Doherty played his best match in a Tottenham shirt

It looks like Matt Doherty has finally got his mojo back. Though you can’t get something back you never really had, at least during his time at Tottenham. Doherty played like he did with Wolves last night, marauding forward with confidence and purpose.

The Irishman has recently pipped Emerson Royal on the pecking order. Doherty repaid Conte last night for the faith and trust the gaffer has shown in him in recent weeks. It was a perfect wingback’s performance, which bodes well for Spurs in the run-in. Everton didn’t exactly put Doherty under any duress, but still, let’s focus on the positive.

Doherty was instrumental in the buildup for Sonny’s goal and played a key part in two other Tottenham goals, assisting on both Kane markers. His through ball to Kane before halftime was timed perfectly and hit with precisely the required weight. He almost scored himself in the first half, but was thwarted by a solid Jordan Pickford save.

And then the pièce de résistance came in the second half, when Doherty lobbed a picture-perfect ball to Kane, who volleyed home off the post. Doherty was solid defensively, too. A sterner test awaits at Old Trafford on Saturday, so we will soon see just how far Doherty has progressed.
