Tottenham Projected Midfield

With the return of Rodrigo Bentancur, we see some change in the Tottenham midfield, beyond a bit of rotation with the wing-backs.

Left wing-back – Sergio Reguilon

After getting a few minutes in Spurs midweek defeat, Sergio Reguilon is finally back in the starting line-up. Reguilon provides a bit more of an outlet than Sessegnon, even if he has not provided a ton of end-product. Reguilon’s penchant for receiving the ball and pushing forward gives Davies the kind of space and time he needs to excel as well.

Central midfield – Pierre Hojbjerg

Although Bentancur is back if Pierre Hojbjerg and not Harry Winks moves to the bench, Tottenham fans may protest at the stadium. While Hojbjerg has not been great, he does continue to win the ball back and has shown some eye for a key pass. Ultimately; Spurs need Hojbjerg to be more aggressive with the ball.

Central midfielder – Rodrigo Bentancur

Back after a slight knock, Bentancur returns to the starting line-up in place of Winks. Bentancur provides more defensively than Winks, and Spurs lose little in the passing department with the change. Considering his Tottenham career after an early injury, taking it to a midfield like Everton’s will be essential if Bentancur becomes a real player for Spurs.

Right wing-back – Emerson Royal

After two of the best chances in the loss to Middlesbrough fell to Matt Doherty, and he missed them, we should expect to see Emerson Royal back. Having had the opportunity to watch Doherty play his role, Royal will hopefully have a bit more success on the attacking end as Tottenham needs their big summer signing to kick on.
