Tottenham Projected Midfield

In the midfield, particularly outside, we may see some change in Spurs XI.

Left wing-back – Sergio Reguilon

On the bench for the last two matches, Sergio Reguilon will finally be back in the line-up against Middlesbrough. Maybe Ryan Sessegnon keeps the spot to maintain his confidence, but it seems like a good opportunity for Reguilon to get a few minutes under his belt in his return. This could be one of several positions that becomes a real competition for the rest of the season.

Central midfield – Pierre Hojbjerg

Like the whole team, Pierre Hojbjerg has been up and down in his play over the last several weeks. He is showing some great signs in his passing, such as the assist on Kane’s goal against Leeds, but then frustrating when he slows play for no reason or is not aggressive enough going forward. Hojbjerg is still learning Conte’s approach while putting in an excellent defensive shift.

Central midfield – Harry Winks

It would be great to write Skipp’s name down, but the youngster is still out injured, along with Bentancur, so again we get Harry Winks. When he is playing aggressively and is looking to move the ball forward, Winks can be a real asset to the team. However, it can be a real problem when he is timid defensively. We hope for more progressive passing and less passing on the tackle.

Right wing-back – Matt Doherty

Although Emerson Royal could undoubtedly play, it is more likely that Middlesbrough plays deep defensively, so having Doherty and his superior crossing skills would be the right call. Doherty looked excellent against Leeds, scoring and setting up Kulusevski on the Swede’s goal. If Doherty takes more minutes moving forward, he will earn them at Middlesbrough.
