A recent wild rumour from Catalan newspaper El Nacional emerged recently, saying Gareth Bale has a pre agreement that will see him return to Tottenham this summer.

First let’s talk about the obese elephant that is thudding around everyone’s room. El Nacional, the questionable, even suspect source of the rumour. Last time I checked, Fabrizio Romano didn’t sign a bazillion pound contract to write for the Catalan publication.

So there’s that.

But if you’re nostalgic like me and cannot give up on the idea that Bale still has unfinished business in north London, you’ll want to believe this rumour with every fibre of your being, even with the overtly obvious red flags flying prominently overhead. You might even trick yourself into dreaming about a Fabrizio tweet saying, “Official, Confirmed, Let’s Go! Bale re-signs for Tottenham!”

I know it’s early in the morning, but that didn’t actually happen. It was a dream. But the prospect of Bale returning to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for one last swan song might not be as farfetched as you might think.

Here’s three reasons Bale’s return to Tottenham could come to fruition in a few month’s time.

3. Bale is done at Madrid, yet again

The writing has been on the wall for years at Madrid. Bale’s future is untenable and it has been since Zinedine Zidane pushed the Welshman out of the first team. Zidane is long gone, but Bale’s troubles at Madrid certainly are not.

At this point Bale is squeezing every last penny out of the Galacticos. The Welshman did contribute significantly to Madrid’s historic run of four consecutive Champions League triumphs from 2013 to 2018, so he probably feels he has earned it and, other than droves of Galacticos’ faithful, who would disagree?

His contract finally expires in June at which time Bale is as free as a rich Welshman. He has made only three La Liga appearances since returning to Madrid, with his recurring knee issue keeping him out of the lineup for almost three months.

Speculation still swirls about whether Bale will take his leave at Madrid by hanging up his boots permanently. Though it feels like Bale, who has won everything there is to win in club football, has no intention of leaving football permanently on a mere whimper.
