Midfield

Pierre Hojbjerg 5/10

Other than a smart cutback pass that led to Spurs’ first — a Saints own goal — Pierre endured a miserable day at the office. His touch was poor and he looked slightly befuddled and disoriented before being withdrawn.

Harry Winks 5.5/10

Another player who endured a mixed bag of a night. Harry Winks was caught on the ball in the 77th minute, offering Broja another splendid opportunity, which he ballooned over. Winks also wasn’t aware of Mohamed Amine Elyounoussi’s late run on Southampton’s second.

Emerson Royal 3/10

A nightmare evening from Emerson Royal. He was, at least partially, at fault for two of three Southampton goals. He was out of position on their third, allowing a free header Che Adams. On the first, he let the ball pass his body instead of dealing with it immediately. The second goal looked like he was culpable, but nobody picked up the late midfielder, which Winks should have been aware of. Though it didn’t look like there was any communication from Royal. Hard to tell. Not good enough either way.

Sergio Reguilon 7/10

Sergio was the best player of all four midfielders. He made numerous brilliant crosses and caused havoc all evening for Walker-Peters and Stuart Armstrong. He did, however, leave the back post free early in the game, but Lloris bailed him out with a wonderful close-range save. He also missed a sitter in the first half. Needs to score on those opportunities.
