Projecting the Tottenham midfield

Midfield is the area we’re most likely to see changes. No one played poorly against Brighton; the entire midfield was above average. It just seems that Rodrigo Bentancur is more ready to step in immediately and provide some quality minutes.

Left wing-back – Sergio Reguilon

Quietly effective most of the evening against the Seagulls, Sergio Reguilon will be looking to find some space and make plays in the final third. The Davies, Reguilon, and Son left side has worked remarkably well as each becomes more familiar with the other. Reguilon will be looking to give Kyle Walker-Peters a long day.

Central midfield – Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg

For some reason, Piere Hojbjerg does seem to get a bit of flack from some sections of the Tottenham faithful, but the Dane certainly gives his all each time out on the pitch. Pierre is continuing to grow as a passer, and while he does not force much, he makes some key passes at critical times and likely should have had two assists – instead of one – against Brighton.

Central midfield – Rodrigo Bentancur

After replacing Harry Winks late in the FA Cup, Rodrigo Bentancur will get his start against Southampton. Bentancur showed good instinct and confidence on the ball against the Seagulls and will build on that early success. It is not that Winks played poorly. He was rather good; it is just about getting Bentancur settled as quickly as possible with a big run to come. Oliver Skipp didn’t play on Saturday due to a niggling injury and will once again sit this one out.

Right wing-back – Emerson Royal

After being denied a goal against Brighton, Emerson Royal will be raring to get back out on the pitch. The long runs from the Brazilian against the Seagulls highlighted some of his strengths as a player. He can get up and down the line with the best of them. One hopes the fortuitous deflection that looped into the net will boost his confidence, rendering better overall service.
