Three signs Tottenham’s Harry Kane is returning to top form
By Gary Pearson
1. Kane more involved in build up, involving teammates
Kane is an omnipresent force when he’s thriving. He is everywhere all at once. While Conte has impressed upon his top (and only) striker the importance of staying high, Kane will, at least periodically, find a way to drop deep and involve himself in proceedings. Of course the frequency of this occurrence has decreased substantially since Conte’s arrival.
Even so, Kane’s eye for a pass is incomparably better when his confidence is high. Against Brighton, Kane made two key passes and was instrumental in creating space for Sonny and Lucas Moura.
His uncanny ability to hold up play allows everyone around him to overlap and wait as their talisman somehow wriggles free, either drawing a foul or knocking on for one of his two thankful colleagues.
Kane attempted 34 passes yesterday, more than Sonny (31) and Moura (27). For Kane to endlessly striker fear into his opponents, he must be involved in all facets of the match.
And based on recent performances (aside from the Chelsea matches), Kane is back to his three-time Golden Boot-winning form, which could be the most important factor in Tottenham’s top-four pursuit.
