Harry Kane scored a brace and Sonny March bagged an own goal in Tottenham’s 3-1 win over Brighton in the fourth round of the FA Cup.

Kane took the game by the scruff of its neck, scoring sublimely with a long-range curler in the first half and finishing from close range to restore the home side’s two-goal advantage. Kane has now scored 13 goals in his last 12 FA Cup matches.

Graham Potter tinkered with his formation at the interval, facilitating his side’s second half resurgence. The Seagulls enjoyed the better of the first 20 minutes of the second half and cut the deficit in half when Yves Bissouma’s attempted shot deflected wildly off Pierre Hojbjerg’s back, giving Hugo Lloris no chance.

Thankfully Tottenham’s counter attack, via a purposeful Son Heung-min foray,  showed its potency on Kane’s second.

First Half

Although out possessed marginally in the first half, Tottenham made the most of their time on the ball. Kane scored a sublimely placed curler from outside of the box, Spurs’ talisman benefitting from a sloppy giveaway by Adam Webster.

Kane looked sharp on the ball and found space by either dropping off or finding pockets in front of Brighton’s back three. The Seagulls struggled to cope with the combination of Tottenham’s front three and overlapping runs by Sergio Reguilon and Emerson Royal.

Royal got a fortuitous deflection on an attempted cross off of Solly March on the home side’s second. Unfortunately for Royal, March was rightly credited for the own goal. Maybe Royal should always aim for deflections on his crosses.

The high-octane, run-and-gun style wad indicative of an FA Cup match. Both sides barrelled forward whenever possible, making for an exiting cup tie. Antonio Conte will be happy with the way his side attacked, but won’t want to see Spurs concede so many chances, particularly in the second half.

Next. Backers and critics two schools of thought on Paratici's first full window in charge. dark

Spurs could — and probably should — have scored three or four more goals. However, Brighton also had a number of decent chances, which Conte won’t want to see in the Premier League encounter against Southampton on Wednesday.
