Dejan Kulusevski – 7
Coming on for his Tottenham debut, Dejan Kulusevski demonstrated several characteristics that will make him a contributor to this team. Kulu showed his defensive prowess with a nice interception in the final third using his go-go-gadget-like legs. Then the Swede was unlucky not to get his first Tottenham assist setting up Steven Bergwijn. A promising debut.
Steven Bergwijn – 5
Steven Bergwijn only had a few opportunities in his 20+ minutes on the pitch. However, one was a beauty. Kulusevski had set Bergwijn up with a nice square ball in the box. However, the ball popped up just a tad at the same time Bergwijn was leaning back to open his hips, leaving the ball sailing well over the goal. It does not diminish his goals against Leicester, but those are the opportunities Bergwijn needs to bury.
Joe Rodon – N/A
On for Romero for the last 10 minutes, Rodon only touched the ball six times and completed just one pass. Nice to see him play, it would be nice to see him get a chance to do more, but it is hard to say who would come out of the team for him.
Rodrigo Bentancur – N/A
The Uruguayan midfielder also made his debut after scoring a few days ago for his country in South America. Bentancur had two significant moments in his 13 minutes on the pitch. One was an excellent move as Spurs were under pressure defensively, which relieved the pressure and showed some superb skill. The second was Bentancur getting a yellow which tells us the former Juventus midfielder will stick his nose in defensively.
Matt Doherty – N/A
Matt Doherty was on for the last three minutes for Emerson Royal and helped Spurs see the match out.
Coach Antonio Conte – 8
Tottenham came out ready to play and looked sharp, especially in the first half, which is a credit to Conte. If there was a misstep, it was whatever was said at half-time as Brighton dominated the first 10 minutes of the second half, though that was more down to the away side’s change of formation and need to take the game to Spurs. As Spurs retook command, Conte stretched his bench and got his new men on in a nearly perfect FA Cup day for Spurs.
